The Goodness Project
Model of Impact & Healing
Our Clinical Process
Screening & Selection
Patients are selected from the Tygerberg Arthroplasty Clinic waiting list.
Preparation
Patients are admitted to Tygerberg Hospital one day before surgery, where the necessary administration, X-Rays, physiotherapy and medication are arranged in preparation for their procedure.
Admission & Surgery
On the day of the surgery, The Goodness Project coordinates transport to the participating private hospital, where the patient is admitted and undergoes their hip or knee replacement surgery.
Recovery
Following surgery, patients receive the medical care and support they need during their private hospital recovery, helping them begin their journey back to movement and independence.
Going Home
Patients are usually discharged approximately two days after surgery with crutches and take-home medication, continuing their recovery at home.
Follow-up & Journey Closure
Patients receive follow-up care at their local clinic or GP approximately two weeks after surgery, followed by a six-week review at the Tygerberg Arthroplasty Clinic.
Whole-Person Care Programme
Walking alongside every patient
As part of our model, trained volunteers – known as Goodness Companions – provide compassionate, practical encouragement to patients throughout their healthcare journey.
Goodness companions offer emotional support and practical guidance along with optional spiritual support through prayer, when consented by the patient. Participation in this programme is entirely voluntary. Every patient’s personal choices, beliefs, culture and dignity are respected at all times.
Working alongside doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers, Goodness Companions help foster a reassuring environment where patients feel heard, encouraged, and valued as they recover.
